Journeys to Israel, 2007
The excitement and fun of the long narrow strips of ’06 lasted the whole year, and luckily, I was able to return a second time in ’07.
Now, I stacked the strips, making a more traditional rectangular composition.
I thought about the terraced landscapes, and as I worked in layers, I also thought about the layers of history, peoples, civilizations; things above the horizon, and below. This prepared the ground for the “discovery” of the very thin, cut strip that happened in ’08, which I talk about in the portfolio, “Enter the Stripe”.
