Journeys to Israel, 2006 and 2007, and Further Investigation into Landscape
In 2006, I had an opportunity to stay at a school in Israel where a friend was the headmaster. Once again, I was fortunate to have the time and place to concentrate only on my art.
In packing supplies and papers for the trip, I randomly included some cut edges of papers from larger pieces, about 6×18. When I used the first one, just as an aside really, I loved the extreme long, narrow shape. I consequently cut all of the paper I brought into long narrow strips. Serendipity and chance encounters often serve as the path to something new!
This shape is a horizon line itself, and I created scenes and places from what I had seen there on this visit.
The materials are pencil, colored pencil, oil pastels, pastel and gouache.
